The LNAT
ResourcesThe LNAT Consortium publishes two sample papers, an online simulation, a preparation guide, answer commentary and sample essay questions. These are the only questions produced by the test provider. Books, courses and practice platforms can add volume, structure or feedback, but should be checked against the official material first.

Start with the official material
The Consortium’s resources are free and define the current test. Use them before commercial material. Their limitation is quantity, so keep one paper for a later timed check rather than using both at once.

Ration the official papers. Two papers gives you two clean measurements. Sit one cold at the start, do your drilling elsewhere, then sit the second under exam conditions a fortnight before the test. Re-sitting a paper you have already reviewed measures how well you remember it.
What to add, and in what order
Two papers provide a reliable starting point but limited practice volume. The resources below add different kinds of support. Add one only when you can name the gap it needs to fill.

The official set, plus daily reading
One serious opinion or analysis piece a day, read for the conclusion, the reasons, the assumption and the force of words like “usually” and “only”. This builds familiarity with the kind of argument analysis used in both sections.
Layer 2 · £15–£40
One book, for question volume
Books buy you practice papers and worked explanations. Their weakness is format drift: several were written before the test moved to four options, so check a book’s edition against the official format page before trusting its timing advice.

A platform, for feedback
A book cannot identify a repeated error pattern in your work. A question bank can group mistakes by cause, while a tutor can give direct feedback on essays and reasoning.

Adjacent question banks
Free LSAT reading-comprehension material trains the same close reading, though the passages run longer and the calibration differs. Turn to it for volume once the better-matched material has run out.
Choose a resource by the problem
Preparation gets wasted when the resource is aimed at the wrong problem: more questions when the trouble is timing, or more reading when the trouble is that you never review your errors. Work out which one you have first.

What to avoid
- Anything promising a guaranteed score. No provider controls the test or a university’s admissions decision.
- Question banks with no explanations. Without an explanation, it is difficult to identify why an answer was wrong or how to avoid the same mistake.
- Material written for the old format. Five answer options, different timings and pre-2019 structures all still circulate. Check the edition.
- A second course before you have used the first. Few candidates run short of questions; most run short of review.

What is the single best LNAT resource?
Start with the official practice tests and preparation guide. Commercial resources are useful only if you later need more questions, a schedule or personal feedback.
Do I need to pay for LNAT preparation?
No. The official preparation material is free. Paid resources can add question volume, a timetable or feedback, but none is required by the test provider.
How many practice questions should I do?
There is no official target. Use enough questions to identify and correct repeated errors, and review each wrong answer until you can explain why the correct option is supported by the passage.
Are LNAT past papers available?
Not in the sense candidates mean. The Consortium releases sample practice tests rather than an archive of live papers, so “past papers” in circulation are either those samples or third-party imitations.
